Iswar Naik appointed Secretary of BJD Dalit Cell

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to win the support of the Dalit communities in the state, BJD supremo and Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik has appointed Dr Iswar Chandra Naik as the Secretary of Dalit Cell of the ruling party.

Naik has been involved in various social activities for the last seven years, particularly in the development of SC & ST communities in different parts of the state.

Talking to Kalinga TV, Naik said, “I am honoured to be a part of Dalit Cell of BJD. I am also grateful to honourable Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for his trust on me.”

“I will strive hard to reach out to the people and popularise the pro-people initiatives taken by the State Government,” he added.

Hailing from Kashipur, one of the most backward regions in the country, Naik successfully completed his PhD in Sociology from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi in 2010.

In JNU, Naik was affiliated to the National Student Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of Indian National Congress. He held the posts of General Secretary and Vice President of the NSUI’s JNU unit during his student days.

Naik was also elected as the Student Union President of DAV College, Koraput in the academic session of 1999-2000.

Currently, he is posted as an Asst. Prof. at Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS), Bhubaneswar.
