Two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of 1994-batch Sanjeeb Panda and Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa have been promoted to the Director General of Police (DGP) rank, informed the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Monday.
Bhubaneswar: Two Indian Police Service (IPS) officers of 1994-batch Sanjeeb Panda and Yeshwant Kumar Jethwa have been promoted to the Director General of Police (DGP) rank, informed the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Monday.
According to the CMO, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has approved the state government’s proposal to promote Sanjeeb Panda and Yeshwant Jethwa to the DGP rank from the Additional Director General (ADG) grade.
The development is assumed significance as the state government promoted the IPS officers while discussion over the appointment of new DGP has intensified as current DGP YB Khurania is all set to retire from service on August 16.
Meanwhile, it is suspected that a list of officers in the rank of DGP, which includes both Sanjeeb Panda and Yeshwant Jethwa, is likely to be submitted to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) in the coming days.
Although both officers belong to the 1994 batch, Sanjeeb Panda is senior to Yeshwant Jethwa in the inter-se seniority list.
Sources indicate that one existing DGP-rank officer may be left out of the UPSC consideration list. As a result, the three officers likely to be shortlisted by the UPSC are expected to include Sanjeeb Panda, who is assumed to be the strong contender for the DGP chair.
