International Women’s Day: Odisha women artists create beautiful sand sculpture in Puri

Puri: On the occasion of International Women’s Day, girl students of renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik’s institute on Tuesday created a beautiful sand sculpture at Puri beach in Odisha.

Taking to Twitter, Pattnaik shared the image of the artwork and wrote “My students created SandArt on International woman’s day at puri beach in Odisha.”

This year’s sand art has been made with a theme of ‘Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.’

March 8 has been marked as International Women’s Day across the globe. The day celebrates the cultural, political, and socio-economical achievements of women and girls.\

Here are a few ways you can celebrate International Women’s Day, either alone or in a group:

  • Women at workplaces can encourage the entire team to implement a dress code or ask your co-workers to wear single coloured clothing to demonstrate their support.
  • You can educate yourself about women’s rights. This day is all about celebrating women and their achievements. But, it is also important for women to know about their rights and keep themselves updated about any changes or newly formed policies.
  • You can donate to non-profit organizations that will benefit women. There are alot of non-profit organisations work tirelessly for uplifting women and young girls, fighting for their rights and education, raising important issues around gender parity, championing free speech of marginalized communities, raising intersectional feminist ideologies and for many such causes.
  • You can spend quality time with your group over video calling as well as by meeting in person, abiding Covid protocols. Have a chat, open up about your daily struggles, discuss feminist issues, order each other’s favourite dishes, and just relax.
  • You can support local women-owned brands to empower them. There will be more than enough women-owned brands that you can search about online and shop from them. Some labels might also support feminist, environmental, and other important causes.
  • A coffee morning or high tea session can be an easy way to reconnect with the women in your family or friends’ circle.
  • Gather your women friends or family members to see the world through movies directed by women filmmakers or those starring women in pivotal roles such as Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara directed by Zoya Akhtar, Kahaani starring Vidya Balan.
