Cuttack: Tension prevailed at the ticket counters at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack City this evening as irate ticket aspirants broke barricades after failing to get tickets for the upcoming India vs England 2nd ODI match despite standing in long queues for hours.

Many of the cricket fans even fell sick while several others were injured as a stampede-like situation erupted near the ticket counters.

After failing to book the online ticket for the second ODI between India and England, thousands of cricket lovers gathered to make beelines infront of the counters to get offline tickets. They started standing in the lines since last evening.

The counters were opened at 9 AM to sell 11,080 offline tickets till 6 PM. A crowd of over 15,000 people including women and girls made the lines for the tickets.

The Commissionerate Police, though had made elaborate arrangement and deployed adequate police forces, had a herculean task to control the crowd. Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena himself was present at the venue and was seen trying to maintain law and order.

However, the situation became out of control after hundreds of fans vented their angers after not getting tickets for the match as the counters were closed after all the offline tickets were sold out. The people also alleged that the administration has not made proper arrangement to sell the tickets. They claimed that they stood for hours but no arrangement even for water was made for them.

Notably, the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA) put 4000 tickets for online sale. The online ticket booking began at 4 PM on the official District App and on District.in website. However, within no time, the tickets were sold out and fans were frustrated with long waits.
