IMD issues rain warning for Odisha for another seven days, check details

The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar today issued a rain warning for different districts of Odisha for another seven days.

Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Bhubaneswar today issued a rain warning for different districts of Odisha for another seven days.

According to the weather department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely to occur in several districts of the state till July 28.

The IMD also informed the people and officials of the impact of the heavy/very heavy/extremely heavy rainfall and gave a number of suggestions to remain safe and sound.

Check day-wise warnings of IMD:

Day 1 (Valid upto 8.30 AM of July 22)

  • ORANGE WARNING: Heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Nuapada.
  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Debagada, Anugola, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nawrangpur.
  • Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundargada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamaal, Nawrangpur
  • Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at most places over all the districts of Odisha.

Day 2 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 22 to Valid upto 8.30 AM of July 23):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj.
  • Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj.
  • Light to Moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of Odisha.

Day 3 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 23 to Valid upto 8.30 AM of July 24):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching upto 30-40 kmph) very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj.
  • Light to Moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of Odisha.

Day 4 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 24 to Valid upto 8.30 AM of July 25):

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Baleshwar, Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj.

  • YELLOW WARNING: Heavy rainfall very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj.
  • Light to Moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of Odisha.

Day 7 (Valid from 8.30 AM of July 27 to Valid upto 8.30 AM of July 28):

  • Light to moderate rain or thundershower very likely to occur at many places over all the districts of Odisha.

Impact expected and action suggested (Heavy/very heavy/extremely heavy rainfall):

  • Localized Flooding of roads, water logging in low lying areas and closure of underpasses mainly in urban areas.
  • Occasional reduction in visibility due to heavy rainfall.
  • Disruption of traffic in major cities due to water logging in roads leading to increased travel time.
  • Minor damage to kutcha roads.
  • Possibilities of damage to vulnerable structure.
  • Landslides/Mudslides/landslips/mudslips/landsinks/mudsinks.
  • Damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation.

Actions suggested:

  • Check for traffic congestion on your route before leaving for your destination.
  • Follow any traffic advisories that are issued in this regard.
  • Avoid going to areas that face the water logging problems often.
  • Avoid staying in vulnerable structure.
