Heavy rain alert for few districts of Odisha, warning issued for Puri Rath Yatra
The IMD has issued a heavy rain alert for several Odisha districts and a special weather advisory for Puri during Rath Yatra. Odisha has also recorded 14% excess rainfall this monsoon.
Bhubaneswar: Monsoon stays active in Odisha and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have issued an alert for heavy rainfall for the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhara, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamala, Kalahandi, Koraput and Malkangiri where an average 7-11cm rainfall have been predicted.
A weather warning alert have been also released for Puri, where the temperature will hover between 32C and 34C, and warned the participants of the Rath Yatra to take shelter in a safe place if they find a thunderstorm and lightning.
As per reports, Bhapur of Nayagarh received maximum rainfall of 98.3mm, followed by Golamunda 84mm, Padampur 82mm and Paikmal 78mm.
Odisha received total of 463.8mm rainfall between June 1 and July 19, which is 14 percent above the average.
