GPH Asst Engineer arrested by Odisha Vigilance in DA case

Kalahandi: The Odisha Vigilance on Thursday have arrested Kishore Chandra Sahu, Assistant Engineer, General Public Health (GPH) section, Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi district, and forwarded him to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna, on charges of possessing disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 313% of his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

The Koraput vigilance have registered a case in this connection against Sahu and his spouse under Section 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment Act), 2018.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets worth crores of rupees were unearthed in the name of Sahu and his family members.

The unaccounted properties unearthed from the possession of Sahu and his family include:

  • One palatial triple-storeyed building having a total area of 10,500 sq ft at Bhawanipatna town worth over Rs 1.10 crore.
  • Two plots in a prime area of Bhawanipatna Town.
  • Bank, postal, and insurance deposits worth over Rs 1.54 crore.
  • Cash to the tune of Rs 2.65 lakh.
  • Gold jewellery is approximately 441 grams and silver ornaments weigh 700 grams.
  • Two two-wheelers and household articles worth over Rs 5.47 lakh.

After a thorough search, inventory, and further inquiry, the income, expenditure, and assets of Sahu were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 313% in excess of his known sources of income.

More investigation in this case is in progress.
