Goods train hits rest shed at Jajpur Keonjhar Road Station

Jajpur: A major mishap was averted at the Jajpur Keonjhar Road Railway Station here today after a coal-laden goods train skidded off its track and dashed against a rest shed damaging its roof badly.

The mishap took place at the Platform No.3 of the railway station at around 5 AM while passengers were sleeping at the railway station but no one was resting at the damaged shed.

As per the station authorities, the goods train which started its journey from Khordha Road Station late in the night tilted while passing near the Platform No. 3 of Jajpur Keonjhar Road Station and ended up hitting the rest shed causing its roof to collapse and fall on the benches located under.

Railway officials swung into action immediately after the accident and tried to restore operation through the track by clearing the roof sheets from it. Later engineers and technical staffs undertook the repairing work of the shed.

While the cause of the mishap is yet to be ascertained a probe is underway to find out the discrepancies, informed railway officials.
