Former VLW Biharilal Barik convicted in vigilance corruption case

Biharilal Barik, the ormer VLW of Deogaon Block in Balangir district, now retired was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir and was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years.

Balangir: Biharilal Barik, the ormer VLW of Deogaon Block in Balangir district, now retired was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balangir and was sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 years.

Apart from awarding two years of rigorous imprisonment, the Special Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the VLW of Deogaon Block.

Barik who was charge sheeted by Odisha Vigilance U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(c) PC Act,1988/467/409 IPC, for misappropriation of Govt. rice received under NFFW/SGRY Schemes for different developmental works and Government cash by manipulating the official records.

Odisha Vigilance will now move the competent authority for stoppage of pension of Biharilal Barik following his conviction.

L.K. Jal, Ex-DSP, Vigilance, Sambalpur Division had investigated the case and Jayakrushna Sahoo, Spl. P.P, Vigilance, Bolangir conducted the case on behalf of the prosecution.

Earlier yesterday, former BDO Ramesh Chandra Sahoo was reportedly sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for a period of 3 years and fine of Rs 50,000 was imposed on him by Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore.
