Former MLA Surendranath Naik passes away, death condoled by Odisha CM

Bhubaneswar: Former MLA and Minister Surendranath Naik passed away at the age of 93 years. He passed away at his residence in Bhubaneswar. Surendra was suffering from old age related ailments for a long time.

Surendra was well known as a popular politician in Kakatpur politics. However, he was elected seven times as an MLA from Kakatpur. He was the minister of important departments like agriculture, revenue and education.

Surendranath Naik who came to the political arena by chance, handled the responsibilities of various important departments like education, health and revenue. In 1971, he was first elected to the Legislative Assembly on the Congress ticket. Later, he was elected as an MLA on Janata Party ticket in 1977 and 1985, then in 1990 Janata Dal, he was elected as an MLA on Janata Dal ticket in 1995 referendum. Later, he contested assembly elections on BJD ticket in 2000 and 2004 and was elected MLA from Kakatpur.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi expressed deep grief over the demise of former minister Surendra Nath Naik. He expressed condolences to the bereaved family. The Chief Minister said that Naik was a popular leader and an efficient administrator. He was very popular among the common people. As MLA and Minister, he contributed significantly to the development of various sectors of Odisha. Chief Minister said that his death is a big loss for the state.
