G Udayagiri: The forest department is at their wits end as the forest fire in G Udayagiri is showing no signs of getting tamed. The forests in Paburia, Kalinga and G Udayagiri under G Udayagiri forest division are under the grip of wildfire.
The wild trees and herbs have reduced to ashes following the massive wildfire. This has proved fatal for the fauna residing in these forests. The forest department is under immense tension to douse the wildfire.
DFO Prashant Kumar Patel and governement’s forest conservator Swetalina Sahu estimated the loss. The forest department is trying their best to extinguish the fire.
According to reports, some miscreants have ignited the fire which has now engulfed many valuable trees and wildlife.
These forests are known for their tropical low mixed and semi-evergreen vegetation. They are a house to Morinda tinctoria (Achhu), Spondias mangifera (Ambada), and Ougeinia oojeinensis (Bandhan) trees.
The tribal people in these areas use 21 plant species to treat stomach problems and nine plants for their treatment of jaundice. A medicinal plant called Abutilom indicum is used to cure jaundice is found in these forests.
