Members of the youth group held a demonstration and resorted to sloganeering against the state health department’s apathy towards CHC. They also torched the effigy of health minister Pratap Jena during the protest.
The strikers warned the state government of intensifying their stir in the coming days with a Kantabanji bandh call soon, if it fails to fulfill their demand immediately.
“While we are demanding the Kantabanji CHC’s upgradation as a Sub Divisional Hospital for last 5 years, the state health minister is not paying heed to it. More to our shock, the state government upgraded 6 CHCs in the state as Sub Divisional Hospitals on October 17 but Kantabanji CHC was missing from the list. Our fast-unto-death would continue if the demand is not fulfilled immediately or the government gives a written assurance on the same,” said Asish Khaitan, a striker.
