Bhubaneswar: Family members of a brain-dead youth saved two lives by donating his organs at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
A 28-year-old unmarried man from Angul met with an accident on May 30 and was undergoing treatment at KIMS Hospital in critical condition. Despite all efforts of the doctors, his condition deteriorated following which he was declared brain-dead.
Following his death, KIMS hospital authorities contacted his family members and advised them to donate his death. Initially, his mother did not agree to donate his organ at such a sad time. However, after the organ transplant coordination team explained in detail about the great purpose of organ donation, the family agreed to donate the son’s organ.
Later, the KIMS medical team successfully removed two kidneys from the young man’s body on Sunday. While one of the kidneys was transplanted into a patient at the hospital, the other was transplanted into a patient undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College Hospital in Cuttack.
Today, the authorities of the KIMS Hospital paid tribute to the deceased youth and thanked his family members for their exemplary work.
