Elephant found dead in Bangriposi Forest

Baripada: Yet another elephant was found dead in Odisha on Sunday. The female elephant was found dead near Golamundakata village under the Bangriposi forest range of Mayurbhanj district of the State, informed the Forest Department officials.

Some locals noticed the carcass of the jumbo which is assumed to be 5-year-old and informed the forest officials about the death of the elephant. Soon, a team of officers from the Forest Department, including the Ranger and Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.

The forest official tried their best to find out either the big animal has sustained any injury mark on any of its outer organ. However, as they did not find any mark, it is suspected that it died either after consuming some toxic food or after getting electrocuted.

Speaking to the media persons about the incident, the Baripada Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) said that the exact cause of the animal’s death will be ascertained when the postmortem report is released by the veterinarians.

A huge crowd had gathered on the spot to have a glance of dead pachyderm with many of them expressing their sadness over its death.
