DFO Nityananda Nayak possessed DA to the tune of 218 percent

Nityananda Nayak, the DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of Kendu Leaf Division in Keonjhar was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar.

Keonjhar: Nityananda Nayak, the DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) of Kendu Leaf Division in Keonjhar was arrested by Odisha Vigilance and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar.

Nayak was arrested on charges of possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 218% of his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily. In this connection, Balasore Vigilance PS Case No.6 dated 22.07.2025 was registered against Sri Nityananda Nayak, DFO, Keonjhar and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC (Amendment) Act,2018.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets worth crores were unearthed in the name of Nityananda Nayak, DFO, Keonjhar and his family members;

  1. One four storeyed building with area approx. 9000 Sqft. at Turanga, Angul.
  2. 123 valuable plots (58 plots in his name, 43 plots in name of his spouse, 18 plots in name of his two sons and 4 plots in name of his daughter)
  3. One farm house of Sri Nityananda Nayak of around Ac.1.50 dcml comprising an outhouse of 1432 sqft, another house around 314 Sqft, a fisheries pond over Ac 0.40 dec land excavated at a cast of approx Rs.30 lakhs, two bore wells, one well, and plantation of hundreds of coconut, banana and mango trees, another farm house with under construction building and 98 coconut trees over Ac 0.72 dec, a fisheries pond over Ac 0.75 dec. have been unearthed in Machhkuta, Chhendipada in Angul district.
  4. Cash Rs.10.25 lakhs.
  5. Gold ornaments weighing 200 gms.
  6. Bank and Insurance deposits worth Rs 50,38,660.
  7. 2 four wheelers (Maruti Suzuki Dzire & Skoda Volkswagen Virtus) & 2 two wheelers.
  8. Household articles worth around Rs 23.80 Lakh

After thorough search, inventory and further enquiry, the income, expenditure and assets of Nityananda Nayak were calculated and he was found in possession of disproportionate assets which were 218% in excess of his known sources of income.

Investigation of the case is in progress.
