Detailed probe will be conducted for stampede-like situation in Puri: Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan

Puri: Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan has informed that a detailed probe into the Puri stampede-like situation after a telephonic conversation with Chief Minister Mohan Majhi.

According to information, Law Minister talked to the CM and informed that an investigation and enquiry into the matter will be conducted. He is likely to arrive in Puri on Sunday that is today.

According to information, around 4.50 am the stampede-like situation occurred as a large number of devotees had thronged to witness the morning Pahada. Two people died on the spot while another one died while undergoing treatment.

The Law Minister said, “Strict action will be taken in the matter and investigation is underway.” He said that for the Pahada ‘a group of people’ (swarm of devotees) rushed in. Due to the sudden rushing of the devotees, some people were suffocated and died.

While three women died, eye witnesses said that over 50 devotees have sustained injuries. The stampede-like situation happened near the Rath in Saradhabali i.e Gundicha temple.

Police DG YB Khurania is enquiring the matter on the site around 9.20 am. Along with him, ADGP and IG and other officials have also reached for the inspection.

District Collector Siddharath Shankar Swain said that an inspection will be conducted.

It is worth mentioning here that, the devotees present there have alleged that security professionals were not present in the area. However, investigation is underway.
