Cyclone Dana Update: Why October 25 is important for Odisha

Bhubaneswar: In view of the cyclonic storm ‘Dana’ the Odisha government is all set to tackle any emergency situation that comes up informed, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari.

The well marked low pressure is likely intensify into a cyclonic storm (to be named as Cyclone ‘Dana’) by tomorrow (October 23) and further into a severe cyclonic storm by morning of 24th October.

It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm by 23rd October, 2024 over eastcentral Bay of Bengal. Thereafter, continuing to move northwestwards, it is very likely to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by morning of 24th and cross north Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Sagar Island during night of 24th and morning 25th October, 2024 as a severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting 120 kmph,” the bulletin added.

Around 250 relief centres have been reviewed and have all been set up. Apart from this, 500 temporary shelters have been made ready. Those people who will be evacuated will be provided with food, medical services. A list of pregnant women have also been prepared by the health department.

For the first time, women police officers will be deployed at the relief centres. Dedicated ODRAF and NDRF teams have been sent to the vulnerable areas and the government focuses on 100 percent evacuation from the areas that are likely to be affected. We have approached the Centre for more NDRF team, informed Revenue Minister.

The Food and Supplies department of Odisha have already sent to food items to the required places. We have also deployed police team to prevent any kind of theft in the villages during the Cyclone Dana, said Suresh Pujari.
