Around 1400 stalls will come up during the Bali Jatra which will be held on two grounds covering an area of 47 acres, comprising 37 acres of lower ground and 10 acres of upper ground.
Officials of the Cuttack district administration and Cuttack Municipality Corporation (CMC) visited the grounds today and said that the stall rentals for traders have been increased by Rs 2 per square feet from Rs 22 last year to Rs 24 per square feet this year.
Last year, the East Zone Bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) in Kolkata had restrained the district administration from allotting the sites for erection of makeshift stalls on one of the grounds that it was part of the Mahanadi riverbed. However, considering the historical significance of Bali Jatra in the city, the tribunal later allowed holding of the event in the area.
