Crime Branch EOW To Probe Rs 10.9 Cr Seizure At Odisha-Chhattisgarh Border

Bhubaneswar: As per latest information, Odisha Crime Branch’s Economic Offence Wing (EOW) will probe into the seizure of Rs. 10.90 crore from a car at Mahasamund district in Chhattisgarh, near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.

The CB had informed that four persons identified as Banwari (40), Prahlad (30), Mohammed Ibrahim (45) and his wife Nazma (35), residents of Agra in Uttar Pradesh, had left Cuttack on February 17. The car from which the cash was seized has an Uttar Pradesh RTO registration number. All the persons were travelling to Agra in Uttar Pradesh from Cuttack.

The Toyota car was stopped during a routine vehicle check-up after which several wads of currency notes, all in Rs 500s, were recovered.

DGP RP Sharma informed that the Odisha Police is co-operating with the Chhattisgarh Police in the matter. The police are also trying to find out who gave the persons money and the purpose behind it.

The DGP also added that the EOW of the Crime Branch will now investigate the matter at the local level, in association with Chhattisgarh Police.
