Children’s home inmate subjected to witchcraft for sickness in Balasore

Balasore: In yet another instance of superstitious practises in remote patches of the State, an inmate of a children’s home has been treated by a village quack instead of being taken to a doctor in Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore district.

As per the report, the victim identified as a resident of Remuna area and an inmate of Utkal Balashram had developed a wound on his leg a few days back. As the wound didn’t heal for long and it caused unbearable pain last night, a need for hospitalization aroused.

As per the allegation, the children’s home authority took the victim to a village quack in the same night who resorted to witchcraft to cure the illness.

Later a group of social activists rescued the boy and admitted to a nearby government hospital for treatment.

Child Welfare Committee members Asish Ghosh and Ganeswar Rout reached the hospital of late and took stock of the health condition of the sick boy.

Being queried upon the incident the Superintendent In-Charge of the children’s home has rubbished the allegation of witchcraft.
