Kandhamal: In a major operation, the BSF 136 Battalion thwarted a Maoist attack in the Silakisuga forest under Baliguda police station limits in Kandhamal district in Odisha. The Maoists had planted IED explosives targeting security forces and police, but the BSF jawans detected the explosives during a combing operation.

Acting on intelligence inputs about Maoist presence, the BSF team seized 18 gelatins, 8 detonators, 17 batteries, solar plates, and other materials from the forest. The Maoists had abandoned the site after planting the explosives and escaped via an alternate route.

The BSF operation has foiled the Maoists’ major attack plan, and the area is now under intensified surveillance.
