Brown sugar worth Rs 35 lakh seized, 2 peddlers held in Khordha

Khordha: Continuing with its crackdown on illegal drug traders in the district, Excise Department officials today arrested at least two peddlers from Bhaliabadi and Mathasahi areas under Khordha Town police limits and seized brown sugar weighing 295 gram from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Krushna Chandra Palei of Bhaliabadi and Rabindra Pradhan of Mathasahi areas.

A joint team of Cuttack flying squad and Khordha Excise unit took part in the crackdown which took place at around 7.30 am this morning. During the raid on the houses of the accused, a number of packets of the banned drug were seized.

Excise officials said, the arrested duo was under police’s scanner for past few months following a tip-off on their involvement in narcotics trade. They were selling brown sugar to local customers after bringing those from Jaleswar area of Balasore distrist, they added.

According to an estimation the value of the seized brown sugar will be around Rs 35 lakh.
