Block grant teachers defy rain; dharna enters Day 2

Bhubaneswar: More than 50,000 block grant teachers and lecturers braved heavy rains to press their demands at Lower PMG Square here on Thursday.

Teachers and employees of the School Teachers Federation of Odisha (STFO), 662 and 448-category college lecturers association, who began their agitation yesterday under the banner of Odisha School College Teachers and Employees Joint Forum, sat with umbrellas again on Wednesday demanding fulfillment of their various demands.

They threatened to continue the protest till the fulfillment of their demands.

Abolition of the block grant system, equal salary for equal work, salary as per 7th pay commission recommendations, provision of full aid, government takeover of all aided schools are some of their demands.

Hundreds of concerned school and colleges have been closed due to the agitation of the teachers.
