BJD to gherao Odisha Assembly on September 23
Protesting against the Odisha BJP government’s alleged curtailment of powers vested in people’s representatives under the Panchayati Raj system, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Saturday announced to gherao the State Assembly on September 23.

While addressing a press meet, senior BJD leaders Debi Prasad Mishra, Arun Sahoo and Pramila Mallik, alleged that the saffron party government has curtailed the powers of public representatives in the three-tier Panchayati Raj system of the state and given more powers to the officers by violating the Orissa Panchayat Samiti Act.
The conch party also claimed that the state government has badly failed to serve the people and no developmental work is being done anywhere in the state and wherever the works are done the state government issues circulars to appease the BJP workers.
Alleging that the state government’s decision is aimed at weakening democracy and go against the foundation of the Panchayati Raj structure, the BJD announced that apart from the party leaders and workers, Zilla Parishad chairpersons, block chairpersons, sarpanchs, and ward members from across the state will gather at the Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar and gherao the Odisha Assembly on September 23.
Arun Sahoo also announced that the BJD MLAs will also protest inside the state assembly on Tuesday.
