Bhubaneswar: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Monday staged a massive protest at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar over rising prices of essential commodities. Joining the protest former Odisha CM, BJD Supremo addressed the gathering and said that prices of essential commodities are rising, but there is no action.

The former Odisha CM Mr Patnaik started his speech with ‘Jay Jagannath’ and thanked the party workers for coming all the way from their districts across the State in this cold days to take part in the protest.

Patnaik said that the BJP government was formed in June. It has been seven months till the new government was formed in the State, however, we are only hearing long speeches but there is no action though the prices are rising.

This government claims to be the people’s government. But it does not seem to have any connection with the happiness and sorrow of the people. May it be cereals, oil or grocery to medicine, the prices of all essential commodities are now skyrocketing. The government has no control over the market.

Life has become difficult for the common man in the State. Unseasonal rain has wreaked havoc on farmers leading to crop loss. But the leaders are spending time in their own promotion.

Over the questions raised by the former Odisha CM and the agitation, BJP came up with a strong reply. Golak Mohapatra, Vice President, State BJP condemned the BJD’s agitation at the time of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas when the State is welcoming the overseas Indians. The development of Odisha does not depend on the BJD. BJD is not tolerant after seeing the successful governance of the BJP government. BJD has handed over the problem of price increase to BJP as a legacy. The potato and onion mission of the previous government failed. Most of the goods are coming to Odisha from outside the state.

However, the BJP government is taking various steps to control the price increase. What the previous government could not do for a long time, the BJP government has done in 6 months.

The BJD government had said that it would give a bonus of Rs 100 on paddy, but did not give it. BJP had promised and given a bonus of Rs 800 to the farmers.

BJD was crying crocodile tears in the name of women empowerment. But the BJP government gave respect to women through the Subhadra Yojana, Mohapatra said.
