Pipili: West Bengal has refused to buy chicken from the state after the detection of bird flu in Odisha, said reliable reports on Monday. The West Bengal Poultry Federation has informed about this decision.
A 13-member Rapid Response Team was sent to Pipili block in Puri district on August 24 for the culling of the chickens. It is worth mentioning here that, thousands of chickens were seen dying every day in Pipili area for the past few days.
After that a two-member medical team from the Animal Diseases Research Center in Phulankhara, Cuttack collected the blood, urine, and phlegm sample of the chicken and took the dead chicken for examination. After testing the chickens in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, bird flu positive symptoms have been found in the said chickens.
Following the detection of positive bird flu samples, there is an atmosphere of fear in the minds of poultry farmers. Farmers said that not a single chicken will be allowed to be killed until proper compensation is paid while proper information is not being provided about bird flu.
A 13-member medical team arrived and first examined the chickens. The livestock department said that the chickens in the farms will be counted and compensation will be paid as per the guidelines of the government.
