The state government and the Railway Ministry will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard shortly.
According to the decision taken during the meeting, the railway station will get a heritage building look. To fund this, the Rs 60 crore budget allocated earlier for the up-gradation of the railway station will be increased and a new station design finalised by February next year, sources privy to the deliberations at the meeting said.
Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will supervise the work on the development of the smart station, which will be integrated with the Smart City project, the sources said.
The meeting also decided to shift the Ashoka Market located near the railway station elsewhere before the commencement of the project.
“The tender for the design consultant has been out. We hope we will be able to finalise the consultant in a month or two. Steps have been taken for shifting of Ashoka Market. The work will begin soon after finalising the design by February next year,” said BDA Vice-Chairman Krishan Kumar.
