Barbil Bank of Maharashtra Robbery: Two Key Accused Arrested from Dhanbad

Barbil: In a major breakthrough in the Barbil Bank of Maharashtra robbery case, Keonjhar police have arrested two prime accused from Dhanbad in Jharkhand.

The accused persons have been identified as Rajakumar Singh and Kunal Raj Verma.

A special police team led by Additional SP Pratyush Mahapatra had gone to Dhanbad for investigation. Acting on intelligence inputs, a joint team of Keonjhar and Dhanbad police conducted raids in the Nirsa and Sindri areas and nabbed the accused.

Police have seized 288 grams of gold, two Scorpio vehicles and four mobile phones from their possession. However, some other accused involved in the robbery are still absconding and raids are continuing to arrest them.

The robbery took place on January 19 at the Bank of Maharashtra branch in Barbil, where miscreants looted gold worth around Rs. 5 crore and cash of Rs. 8 lakh. As per reports, six armed criminals arrived on five motorcycles, entered the bank posing as customers, threatened the manager at gunpoint and locked the customers in a room.

The miscreants then broke open the lockers and fled with the valuables. Police said further investigation is underway and more arrests are expected soon.
