Another girl gangraped in Odisha, 5 such incident in 10 days
According to police, a girl was returning home after offering prayers at the temple at 5 PM yesterday in Karanjia police station limits of the district. However, three youths waylaid her and forcefully took her to a nearby forest and raped her one after the other.
Odisha: Cases of rape and gangrape continue to rise in Odisha as a fresh such incident has now come to the fore from Karanjai area of Mayurbhanj district. This is the fifth such incidents that occurred in Odisha in the last 10 days.
According to police, a girl was returning home after offering prayers at the temple at 5 PM yesterday in Karanjia police station limits of the district. However, three youths waylaid her and forcefully took her to a nearby forest and raped her one after the other.
After returning home, the girl narrated her ordeal before the family members, who in return filed a complaint at Karanjia police station late at 2 AM.
Based on the complaint, police arrested one Bikash Patra of Malarpada village and forwarded him the court. Efforts by police are also underway to nab two other accused, who are still at large.
This is the fifth such rape cases that were reported in the state in the last 10 days. A college student was gang-raped by 10 persons on Gopalpur beach on June 15 while 17-year-old girl was gang-raped, killed and hanged from a tree in Keonjhar district on June 16. Similarly, four men had gangraped a woman under Baripada Sadar police station area on June 17. Likewise, the owner of Arogya Dham clinic at the Courtpeta chhaka in Berhampur sexually assaulted a minor girl, who was working at the clinic, on June 23.
