Action report against protesting revenue officials in the Amala Sangha strike sought from District Collectors by Odisha Government
Bhubaneswar: Report of action taken has been sought from the District Collectors against the mass leave of revenue officials. The state government has written to all District Collectors and sought a report on what action has been taken against the Amala Sangha strike.
As per the instructions given to the District Collectors regarding the strike and mass leave of revenue officials at the district level, the Odisha government has sought an action taken report from the District Collectors.
The Amala Sangha strike has entered day 15. All the Odisha Revenue Officers are on protest. More than 10,000 revenue officers in all 30 districts of the state are on mass leave since August 11.
Reports further said that, they have a 10-point charter of demands. Revenue work has come to a complete standstill across the state. The Revenue Minister had advised them to withdraw from the protest and join the work keeping in mind the problems of the common people, but the association has given no heed to the warning.
On strike by the Amala Sangha or the revenue department employees, Odisha minister Suresh Pujari has warned to stop salary and take strict action. The Minister while interacting with reporters said, “I have already held discussions with them on two occasions in the past. The restructuring of the revenue staff is made by the GA department.”
Pujari further added, “So the revenue department has already sent the proposal with its remarks to the GA department, which will take a final decision in this regard. And going on mass leave is not a healthy sign for a good democracy. The people of Odisha at large will be deprived of the revenue services in such a situation.”
The Minister further said, “The revenue staff has a role to play in providing revenue services to the people of Odisha. If they do not abide by the instructions, then disciplinary action will be initiated against them. And that will not be very helpful for them.”
He warned, “So, there is still time. I request all of them to join duty immediately.” Earlier also the Minister had warned them but there was no effect, it is to be seen when they call-off the strike.
However, the district collectors have been directed to immediately submit an action taken report in this regard. Additional Chief Secretary, Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Deo Ranjan Singh has written a letter to all district collectors and sought a report.
