Balasore: The nuclear capable intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) Agni-V was test-fired from the integrated test range (ITR) at the Abdul Kalam Island off the Odisha coast in Balasore district on Thursday.
The indigenously designed and developed missile was test-fired from launch pad complex-4 of the ITR at 9.53 AM.
The three-stage, 17.5-metre tall and two-metre wide Agni-V weighs around 50 tonnes. It is capable of carrying nuclear or traditional warhead of about 1.5 tonnes.
Developed by Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the missile has a strike range of 5,000-8,000 km. The accuracy level of the missile is far higher than three earlier variants – Agni-II, Agni-III and Agni-IV.

“We have successfully launched nuclear capable ballistic missile Agni-V today,” said Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The last test of the missile was conducted on December 26, 2016.
