The accused was identified as Prashant Mirdha. He committed the crime based on a previous rivalry with Prafulla Mirdha, the father of the two children.
According to information, two years ago based on some previous enmity the accused had planned to kill Prafulla Mirdha. Two months ago Prashant had returned to their village. Since then he had been waiting to take revenge.
On January 3 he got the opportunity and when the minor siblings were asleep in their verandah he fired at them and fled the scene. Police started an investigation to catch the accused. On January 5, Prashant was caught by the police while he was hiding in the forest.
