Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown on gold smuggling, the CT-GST (Commercial Tax and Goods and Services Tax) squad reportedly seized 80 Kgs of gold and one quintal of silver from two containers in Bhubaneswar this afternoon.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of the CT-GST officials conducted a raid near the airport area and seized the huge amount of gold and silver from two vehicles of BVC Logistics (BVCL), said sources adding that the expected market value of the seized gold and silver is assumed to be worth around Rs 30 crore.
However, the officials are yet to give more details about the seizure of the gold and silver like whether they were transported illegally, where they were being transported and who is the owner of the valuables.
Meanwhile, speaking to the newsmen, Manas Swain, the Additional Commissioner of CT & GST, said, “Interrogation of the four persons, who were inside the two containers when they were seized, is underway. Their identities are also being established. Besides, we are verifying the documents of the gold and silver. If found them to be genuine, will let them go. But, will take action if they were transported illegally.”
