Angul: An elephant aged about 8-year-old was rescued after falling into an abandoned well in Narendrapur village under Banarpal block of Angul district.

The incident took place yesterday, when a herd of elephants strayed into the area, during which one of the baby elephant fell into the well.

As per information, some locals heard sound and spotted the baby elephant struggling inside the well and alerted the forest department. Officials reached the spot and started rescue operation.

A JCB machine was immediately deployed to widen the area around the well. The rescue operation lasted for around 1 hour, after which the elephant was successfully emerged from the well.

The villagers expressed their dissatisfaction over the entrance of the jumbos into the village.
