Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack reportedly seized 76 more vehicles during drive against drunken driving at different places in Bhubaneswar last night.
The drive was carried out across Bhubaneswar, including Capital, Khandagiri, Kharavela Nagar, Laxmisagar, Sahidnagar, Infocity, Maitri Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Mancheswar, Nandankanan, Dhauli, Lingaraj, Airfield, Airport, Bharatpur, Infocity, Infovelly, Jatni, Tamando, Badagada, Chandaka, and Traffic P.S. I & II.
A meticulously planned operation targeted 25 vulnerable points with 8 platoons of force from 11 PM to 4 AM in the night. The Traffic P.S. I & II were particularly active by seizing 40 vehicles, including high-end models like Defender, XUV700, Thar, Scorpio N, Scorpio, Tata Safari, MG Hector, Skoda Rapid, Maruti XL6, Urban Cruiser, Innova etc. Among these, Traffic P.S-I seized 16 four wheelers, including 2 four-wheelers involved in reverse riding.
Likewise, the Traffic P.S-II seized 22 vehicles, of which 4 are four-wheelers & 1 two-wheeler seized in reverse riding, with 1 four-wheeler seized with drunken driving with dangerous driving.
In a serious incident late last night at the OMFED check post, during motor vehicle checking for drunk driving at OMFED Chhak at around 2.35 AM, a Skoda Rapid Style car Regd. No. OD-33-X-9218 was seen approaching at high speed from Jayadev Vihar to towards Damana, the driver ignored police signals, drove recklessly, endangering lives, and even attempted to run over police personnel who were on duty. He then reversed the car against the flow of traffic and further accelerated, crashing into barricades and stop boards, causing damage to his vehicle and police stop boards.
Due to the quick response and alertness of police staff, the car was successfully stopped. Upon inspection, the driver was found under the influence of alcohol, with a breath analyser test revealing a blood alcohol concentration of 183 mg/100 ml, well above the legal limit. The driver, identified as Dibyajyoti Nayak who was incapable of controlling the vehicle.
Additionally, on being search of the vehicle found cash of Rs 4,77,500 in cash in the car’s dickey, for which the driver could not provide a satisfactory explanation. The vehicle and the cash have been seized, and in this connection C.S. Pur P.S Case No-765, dt-29.09.2024 U/s- 281 BNS Sec-3 PDPP Act, R.w. Sec. 179(1) /184(e)/184 (f)/185 MV Act has been registered against Nayak on the report of SI Bishnu Charan Jena of Traffic PS-II, BBSR, UPD for further investigation and both will be forwarded to court.
Beside, FIR has been filed in Police stations against 4 individuals who were found to be heavily intoxicated and detected them in reverse riding, with some even attempting to run over police personnel.
