According to reports, the girls set out on their journey to Nabarangpur Collector’s office at around 4 o’clock this morning to apprise him of staff crunch, which had hit studies badly in the Dhatarasiuni girl’s high school over the last two months. While the school is already functioning without a headmaster since long, shortage of teachers in various subjects had made the situation even worse, claimed the girls after reaching the Collectorate.
According to the agitating students, teacher posts are lying vacant in subjects like History, Geography, English and Mathematics in the school and the school and mass education department is not taking any step to fill those. At such a juncture, it had become a hard task for students in the school to appear the Class 10 pre-test examination scheduled to be held on September 10.
The District Welfare Officer (DWO) has reached the spot to have a discussion with the students to sort out the issue and was trying to settle the matter when this report was being filed.
In a similar incident, around 40 girl students of a high school in Mayurbhanj district had walked over 40 kms to Baripada, the district headquarters, to meet the Collector and apprise him of the lack of safety and security for girls in the school premises a couple of days ago.
