406 criminals arrested, 163 vehicles seized under Operation Garuda

As many as 406 criminals have been arrested while a trial of 163 vehicles have been seized by the Odisha police under the 'Operation Garuda.'

Cuttack: As many as 406 criminals have been arrested while a trial of 163 vehicles have been seized by the Odisha police under the ‘Operation Garuda.’

As per the data shared by the State police, the state police had launched ‘Operation Garuda’ from August 1 following the instructions of the Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania

In the second week of this operation, i.e. till August 16, strict action was taken by the police against crime and criminals across the state.

The main objectives of this operation were to execute Non-Bailable Warrants (NBW), prevent drug smuggling, seize illegal weapons and arrest criminals, crack down on gambling dens and arrest accused involved in various crimes.

In the second week of this operation, SPs and other officers of all the districts participated and achieved remarkable success in preventing crime and criminals. The operation is being carried out across the state under the direct supervision of Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Sanjay Kumar.

From August 1 to till date, as many as 3,643 NBWs were executed while 406 criminals were arrested. Besides, 163 persons were booked for driving under the influence of alcohol.

  • Excise Cases: 1806 cases with seizure of 47,105.56 litres of illicit liquor and cash of Rs 3,400.
  • Illegal Weapons & Cash: 63 firearms, 95 rounds of ammunition, Rs 1,45,500 recovered and seizure of 1 Car, 3 Bikes and 2 Empty Magazines.
  • NDPS Cases: 57 cases, 3030.35 kg of Ganja, 664 Grams of Brown Sugar, 9 cars, 12 Motor Cycle and Cash of Rs 89,520 seized.
  • Gambling Cases: 70 cases with seizure of cash of ₹6,28,725, 03 Cars, 52 Motor Cycles and 47 nos of Mobile Phones.
  • Drunken Drive cases: 163 cases, 163 vehicle seized
  • Criminals Arrested: 406 persons, 163 cases, 163 vehicles seized.

Meanwhile, all the SPs have been directed to sustain such operations with renewed vigor and equal intensity in the days ahead, so as to decisively curb various menaces and antisocial elements, thereby upholding peace, security, and public confidence across the State.
