Baripada: More than 40 girl students of Mukund High School in Morada block in Mayurbhanj district vacated their hostel to air their grievances before district Collector Vineet Bhardwaj on Sunday.
According to reports, the girls, who are now in class IX, decided to meet the district collector to inform about the problems they are facing in the hostel after the hostel authorities failed to address their issues despite repeated requests.
Till the filing of this report, the school students had covered around 5 kilometres to reach the collectorate which is around 30 kilometres away from their hostel
Officials of the hostel with the help of some locals were seen following them. Besides, they tried to convince the girls and bring them back to the hostel, however, the students are adamant to meet the collector.
Incidents of students walking away from their hostels to meet the district
Collector come to the fore time and again in the district. Earlier on February 28, as many as 17 students of Kendua Nodal High School in Kendua within Baripada Sadar limits walked 25 km to air their grievances before Bhardwaj.
