40 arrested after group clash over de-silting of river mouth in Ganjam
As many as 40 villagers were arrested by the Golanthara police in Ganjam district over a group clash on Tuesday.
Ganjam: A group clash erupted between two villages in Ganjam district over de-silting of river mouth on Monday. As many as 40 villagers were arrested by the Golanthara police over the group clash on Tuesday.
Tension arose among villagers of Chikiti’s Rameyapatna and Katuru over the de-silting of river mouth in the area. Following the tension among the villagers, a meeting of the villagers was held.
However, the meeting took an ugly turn and the villagers attacked each other with lathis and arms. In the ensuing group clash three villagers of Rameyapatna village and 5 villagers of Katuru were injured including women.
“At first they put their dried fish out in the sun, then they started to lay rods and beams after that they brought in JCBs in order to build jetties,” said a Katuru villager.
Following the clash the injured were rushed to the hospital. This morning police arrested as many as 40 villagers of both the villages over the group clash. Out of them 21 villagers of Rameyapatna village and 19 villagers of Katuru were arrested by the police.
