24 injured and 4 critical as passenger bus overturns in Gajapati

Gajapati: As many as 24 people have been injured and four people have sustained critical injuries as a passenger bus overturns at Sebakpur village under Rayagada police limits in Gajapati district at 2.45 am last night.

Reportedly, the well-decorated passenger bus, which was en route from Balipadara village under Polasara police limits in Ganjam district to Paralakhemundi, was carrying 35 people of a bride’s family to attend the marriage function.

However, the bus overturned at Sebakpur village in Gajapati as there was a lack of visibility due to heavy fog, and the driver was unable to keep control of the turnings on the road.

Hence, the vehicle lost its balance over the wheels and turned turtle off the road.

Although many people had a close shave in the tragic accident, four people are critical and 14 have been injured including children, ladies, and old age people. The locals immediately informed the police station and firefighters.

On getting the information, the local police along with the firefighters arrived at the spot and rescued the injured people who were trapped inside the overturned bus. All of them were rushed to Paralakhemundi District Headquarter Hospital (DHH) for immediate medical treatment.

It is to be noted that the driver of the bus has escaped from the spot after the accident. The police initiated a probe to track the driver. Further investigation is underway.
