22.13 lakh Odisha students get scholarship

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government covered a total of 22,13,868 students under various scholarship programmes  in the academic year 2016-17. This includes 16,65,706 students covered under pre-matric scholarship programme and 5,48,162 under post-matric programme.

This was revealed during a high level review meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi in the secretariat conference hall today.

Out of the students covered under various scholarship programmes, around 11,56,963  belong to ST,  7,98,382 belong to SC and 2,58,523 belong to OBC category.

During the meeting, it was revealed that disbursements of scholarships to the students had been made timely and transparent through introduction of centralized disbursal system on DBT mode.

Scholarships were disbursed directly to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts from State Treasury.
