Bhadrak: Life came to a standstill across Bhadark today following a dawn-to-dusk bandh call given by Zilla Unnayan Sangharsh Samiti in demand of setting up of a medical college and hospital in the district.
The bandh observation which started at around 6 AM in the morning and will continue till 6 PM witnessed a complete shutdown of businesses across Bhadrak district headquarters where shops, markets and other business establishments remained closed.
Commuters faced a tough time as vehicular movement on the roads came to a grinding halt due to bandh protest. Schools, colleges along with other educational institutions also remained closed.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on either side of the National Highway-16 in the morning due to a blockade staged by the members of Bhadrak Medical College Sangrami Sena, which also extended its support to the bandh.
Rail service was badly hit due to a ‘Rail Roko’ staged by the members of Zilla Unnayan Sangharsh Samiti at the Bhadrak railway station. The protestors intercepted Bhadrak-Palasa Passenger train for hours by sitting on the tracks.
The bandh is being supported by political parties like BJP, Congress, CPM and the ruling BJD.
