Woman pilot sexually harassed in cab, driver detained after allowing two strangers in Mumbai

The cab driver suddenly changed the route and stopped the car at an unfamiliar location allowing two unknown men to enter the vehicle.

Mumbai: A 28-year-old woman pilot was allegedly sexually harassed while travelling in an aggregator cab on Thursday night after the driver rerouted the vehicle and allowed two unknown men to enter midway.

According to the reports, the woman had gone to meet her husband at CSMT station and at around 10:45pm, her husband booked a cab for her from the fort area to return home to an eastern suburb of Mumbai.

After travelling for about 25 minutes, the cab driver suddenly changed the route and stopped the car at an unfamiliar location allowing two unknown men to enter the vehicle, one sat in the front seat and the other sat beside her in the back seat.

The man sitting next to the woman reportedly grabbed her right hand and twisted it backward. When she screamed in fear, the man in the front threatened her to keep quiet. The man beside her then moved his hand over her thigh.

During this incident, the cab driver continued driving and did not intervene or respond in any way.

The woman soon noticed a police checking ahead. As the driver slowed down the vehicle, both the men quickly got out and fled the scene. The woman was reportedly unfamiliar with the area and couldn’t see much outside due to raindrops on the cab’s window, adding to her panic and confusion.

After reaching her destination, she asked the driver who the two men were and why he had allowed them in. however, the cab driver remained silent. Additionally, the woman even paid the fare of Rs 530.

On Friday night, the woman and her husband went to the police station to report the incident and an FIR was lodged at around 1 am on Saturday against the driver and the two unidentified men.

The police have reportedly detained the driver and begun an investigation into the matter.

According to the officials, the three men have been booked under section 75(1) (sexual harassment), 351(2) (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of BNS.
