New Delhi: After the landslide victory of BJP in Delhi, discussions have intensified relating to who will be the next Chief Minister of the capital city of India. There are several candidates who are in the fray including a woman.
According to reports, Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Vijender Gupta, Shikha Roy, Satish Upadhyay, Manjinder Singh Sirsa are the top contenders to the post of the CM of Delhi. Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma defeated Arvind Kejriwal, Vijender Gupta won by a mega margin, Shikha Roy defeated AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj, Satish Upadhyay former BJP state chief and Manjinder Singh Sirsa prominent Sikh leader of BJP in Delhi.
It is worth mentioning that, these five names have defeated major AAP leaders. Hence there is major discussion that the BJP bigwigs may choose any one of these five contenders. The swearing-in ceremony of the new Chief Minister of Delhi is likely to be held after Prime Minister Narendra Modi returns from his US visit on February 13, 2025. BJP got a overwhelming victory in Delhi and returned to power after a 27-year-long gap.
The party won 48 seats in the 70-member Assembly. Meanwhile, the previous ruling party AAP managed to win 22 seats. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party which has been ruling the city for a decade faced defeats in case of its key leaders including party chief and Manish Sisodia.
Like Odisha, BJP did not announce a Chief Ministerial face for the election. BJP held high-level meetings to decide the head of government. On Saturday evening, the Prime Minister chaired a meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president JP Nadda, and other leaders at the party headquarters. However, it is not known whether they discussed the chief ministerial candidates and government formation.
