North Sikkim rescue for stranded tourists from Chaten still underway. The first sortie of the day, comprised of MI 41 & MI 39 helicopters.
Sikkim: Evacuation efforts underway in North Sikkim to rescue stranded tourists from Chaten. The first sortie of the day, comprising MI 41 & MI 39 helicopters. According to reports, the helicopters departed from Pakyong Greenfield Airport to Chaten early this morning.
The helicopters said reports, shall be carrying essential supplies for Army personnel stationed in the affected area. On their return, the helicopters will facilitate the evacuation of stranded individuals from Chaten.
Authorities have recovered three bodies, including those of combatants, after a landslide struck the Chatten area of North Sikkim on Sunday evening, said an official release of the army.
The landslide caused significant damage to nearby habitats. More people are feared missing. Identification of the deceased and search operations are currently in progress, officials confirmed.
Meanwhile, stranded tourists in Lachung in Sikkim are now being actively evacuated through a coordinated effort involving the police, residents, forest personnel, and the Lachung Hotel Association.
