Veteran singer-composer Bappi Lahiri passes away at 69

New Delhi: The veteran singer and music compser Bappi Lahiri passed took his last breath at a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday. He was 69.

Bappi Lahiri is known for delivering popular songs in several films of the late 1970s-80s like Chalte Chalte, Disco Dancer, and Sharaabi. His last Bollywood song titled Bhankas was for the 2020 film Baaghi 3.

The veteran singer was fondly known as ‘Bappi da’. He was much known for his hit numbers as well as for his fascination for gold.

Earlier in 2021, the musician was admitted to Breach Candy hospital in Mumbai after being tested positive for Covid-19. However, Bappi Da was discharged soon.

Lahiri was born into a Bengali Brahmin family in Jalpaiguri. His parents, Aparesh Lahiri and Bansuri Lahiri, both were Bengali singers and musicians in classical music and Shyama Sangeet. Singer Kishore Kumar was his maternal uncle.
