Uproar over Pragya Thakur’s remark on 26/11 hero Hemant Karkare

Bhopal: Malegaon blast accused and BJP’s candidate from Bhopal Lok Sabha constituency Pragya Singh Thakur on Friday invited huge criticism for her controversial remark against former Mumbai ATS chief Hemant Karkare, who was killed in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

Pragya, while addressing a gathering as part of her election campaign, said that Karkare died in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks as she had cursed him for treating her “very badly” while she was in custody in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

“Hemant Karkare falsely implicated me. He died of his karma. I told him, he will be destroyed. I told him his entire dynasty will be erased. Maine kaha tera [Karkare] sarvanash hoga,” Pragya said.

Briefing media in New Delhi, Congress Spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleged that Sadhvi’s remarks have exposed what he called the anti-national face of BJP. He said action should be taken against Sadhvi Pragya as she insulted the martyrs of the country by blaming Karkare.

The IPS Association also condemned the BJP leader’s statement without mentioning her name or the saffron party.

“Pragya Thakur humiliates 26/11 hero and martyr Hemant Karkare. Guess who is Anti National,” senior journalist Barkha Dutt tweeted.

On the other hand, the BJP distanced itself from Sadhvi Pragya Thakur’s remarks.

“The BJP believes that Karkare died while bravely fighting terrorists. The BJP has always considered him a martyr,” the party said in a statement adding that her remarks as her personal view.
