UP: Woman Sets Afire Husband For His ‘Dark Complexion’

Bareilly: In a spine-chilling incident, a 22-year-old woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Bareilly burnt her husband as she did not like his dark complexion. The man was two years younger than her.

The incident took place early on Monday when the deceased, identified as Satyaveer Singh, was sleeping in his cot. Taking advantage of this, his wife Prem Shri set him on fire after pouring petrol.

According to reports, Shri set afire her husband at around 5.45am on Monday morning. In the process, she has also suffered burn injuries on her legs.

The couple was married for over two years and has a 5-months-old girl child.

Inspector Sehdev Singh, station house officer (SHO) of Kurh Fatehgarh, said that initially they had registered an FIR under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code but later it was converted to section 302 (murder) after the man succumbed to burn injuries during treatment.

Meanwhile, Satyaveer’s brother Harveer Singh said Shri always nursed a disliking against Satyaveer for his dark complexion.

“She always commented on my brother’s dark complexion but we never thought that she would take such a step,” said Harveer.
