Union Ministry of Tourism to use Twitter for better reach

New Delhi: Following other departments of Modi government, Union Ministry of Tourism has announced that it will use Twitter for better reach with tourists.

Sources in the Ministry of Tourism said on Thursday that it has been planned to launch dedicated Twitter handles to handle complaints. The handles’ sole purpose will be to provide an immediate solution via Twitter.

Tourism Minister Prahlad Singh Patel had a meeting with the Twitter officials earlier this week, sources confirmed. In the meeting, the minister urged the officials of the Twitter authorities to make a dedicated handle for the Ministry of Tourism on their site to resolve the tourist complaints.

It is believed that the Tourism Minister is following the footsteps of former EAM Sushma Swaraj. Swaraj increased the ministry’s reach amongst the general public in a novel way. The External Affairs Ministry was extremely active on Twitter and was known to take immediate steps to resolve issues.

The Tourism Department’s main focus will be on grievance redressal system and quick action. For this, the Ministry is also setting up a special advice cell on Twitter, which will be fully dedicated to settling complaints received through their Twitter handle in due time. As of now, tourists have to file a complaint on the toll-free phone number of the ministry, which works 24 hours a day.
