New Delhi: A day after farmers staged a massive protest on the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border, the Union Cabinet approved enhanced MSP (Minimum Support Price) for Rabi Crops of the 2018-19 season today.
According to reports, the MSP of wheat has been increased by Rs 105/quintal, barley by Rs 30/quintal, gram by Rs 220/quintal, safflower by Rs 845/quintal, masur by Rs 225/quintal, rapeseed and mustard by Rs 22/quintal.
“By increasing the MSP today the farmers of India will have an additional income to the tune of Rs 62,635 Crores,” said Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad while addressing a press conference post the Union Cabinet’s decision.
Notably, hundreds of farmers under the banner of Bharatiya Kisan Union held a march from Haridwar to reach the national capital yesterday. However, they were stopped by the police at the border using water cannons and tear gas shells.
